All Russian Sovereign Emperor in 1796 - 1801. The son of Emperor Peter III and Empress Catherine II. He was born on September 20th, 1754. Since June 6th, 1762 he inherited the Duchy of Holstein-Gottorp, which he ceded on May 20th, 1773 to King Christian VIII of Denmark. He was enthroned on November 6th, 1796, crowned on April 5th, 1797.
Wives: 1) Countess Augustus Velhelmina, Grand Princess Natalya Alekseevna (born June 14th, 1755; died April 15th, 1776) the daughter of Louis IX, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, since September 29th 1773; 2) Duchess Sophia-Dorothea-Augusta-Louise, Empress Maria Fyodorovna (born October 14th, 1759; died October 24th, 1828) the daughter of Friedrich-Eugene, Duke of Württemberg, since September 26th 1776. Paul I died on March 12th, 1801, and was buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
