Biography
Alexander II Nikolaevich Romanov. All-Russian Sovereign Emperor in 1855-1881 The son of Emperor Nicholas I and Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna. Was born on April 17th, 1818. Enthroned on February 18th, 1855. Crowned August 26th, 1856. The first time he married to Duchess Maximilian-Velgelmine-August-Sophia-Mary, baptized by Empress Maria Alexandrovna (born July 27th, 1824, d. May 22nd, 1880) on April 16th, 1841, daughter of Louis the Second, Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt. The second marriage was with Princess Ekaterina Mikhailovna Dolgorukova, Princess Yurievskaya (b. 1847, d. 1922) on July 6th, 1880. He was killed by the assassins of Narodnaya Volya on March 1st, 1881. Was buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
