Wigström Henrik
History reference
Wigström Henrik Immanuel. Finnish jeweler. Born in 1862 in Ekenes, in the Grand Duchy of Finland, in the family of common fisherman. He began to study jewelry at the local Danish craftsman Petter Madsen, who was engaged in the manufacture of silverware in 1872. In 1878 he started work in St. Petersburg, where he became an apprentice in the Faberge workshop. He was one of the most capable students, after a while he became the right hand of the leading goldsmith Mikhail Perkhin, and when Perkhin passed away in 1903, took responsibility for all the most important orders received by Faberge. The master had worked for 14 years in that position. Wigström became the Head master of Faberge firm in 1906. However the whole activity of Faberge firm was interrupted in 1917, due to events of October revolution in 1917. The master moved to Terijoki on the Karelian Isthmus, where his summer residence located, and where he hoped to wait a few weeks until the situation normalized and he returned to Petersburg, but that hope didn't become true. He died in 1923 in his residence.
