Stable Order appeared at the late XVth century. By the early XVI century, it had a large stable department. Under the authority of the Order were not only the royal stables, the design of royal visits and meetings of foreign ambassadors, but also the activities of workshops' production and a chambers with finished products. The Order was located near the Borovitsky Gates, the Carriage Yard was occupied territory almost to the Trinity Gate, where the crews were stored. In the chronicles of the 17th century the Saddle Workshop, Coach Workshop, Sleigh Workshop, Cart and Carriage workshops are mentioned, it is also said that the activities of the best masters of that time were concentrated in Moscow Kremlin Stables Workshops. Masters of various nationalities worked in the workshops of the Order. Though the Stable Order was abolished in 1732, Workshops did not close until the end of the 18th century, they just limited their production activities.
